blinder Teilnehmer entdeckt die visuelle Sprache bei den AFRIKA-Tagen

In our crash course for Austrian Sign Language, we had a truly touching experience. As a deaf instructor, I had the privilege of working with a blind participant. With the support of a fantastic Austrian Sign Language interpreter, we were able to bridge the gap between these two worlds. The interpreter didn’t just translate sign language, but allowed the two communication styles to blend beautifully.

It’s important to note: Braille is for individuals with visual impairments, not for the deaf, who can perceive the letters visually without the need for additional tools.

The Africa Days, a significant event initiated by Medhat Abdelati, CEO of Event Fokus GmbH, offer a unique insight into African culture. With his extensive experience in organizing large-scale events, trade fairs, and conferences, Abdelati has successfully created a festival that brings African joy and diversity to Europe.

At the opening of the first Africa Days in Munich in 2004, Abdelati shared his vision: „I wanted to combine my love for Munich with my African roots. An African festival in the heart of the city would bring people closer to the joy and culture of Africa.“ This vision continued when the Africa Days were held in Vienna in 2005, where the African community has a similarly strong and vibrant presence.

„Vienna is a metropolis with a large African community. A festival like this is a wonderful opportunity to promote peaceful coexistence between cultures and celebrate the African heritage in a cosmopolitan city,“ explains the spokesperson for the Africa Days.

The event not only provides the chance to experience African art, music, and cuisine but also promotes understanding and cultural exchange.
